“You really don’t need me? You think you can just kick me to the shore and leave me there. You can take care of yourself?” You can’t believe the two of you are fighting again. This argument is getting worse by the second.

“YES ERIDAN! COD YES! You are the most abusing moirail ever! Not pjhysically, but with your words. They hurt. I can’t take it! I will feed my own lusus WITHOUT YOUR HELP.” Feferi is yelling now. You may have let this go too far, but the stubborn part of you won’t allow the rational part of you to fix the situation. You are such a baby. 

“Ok, fine. I’ll leave. You take care of things on your own. Who needs dumb-old-Eridan when “The Lovely Empress” can take care of everything?!” You storm away, stomping as much as is possible on sand. You probably look like a doofus but you are too angry to care right now. 

Once you are far enough away, you find a small cave and sulk for a while. You wish you had been more understanding. You wish you had calmed down enough to think straight and not let this happen. You know Feferi cannot take care of her lusus alone. She can’t do everything alone. She has so much weight on her shoulders, and with you there helping, it made it easier for her. If you leave her to feed her lusus buy her own means, she may not be able to do it and that could kill everyone. Sure you wouldn’t mind killing off the land dwellers, but there are some animals you are fond of, and of course you do not want Feferi to die. 

You will simply have to watch from afar and hope. 

Your new schedule of supervising Feferi begins with waking up early every day. You wait for Feferi to wake up and watch what she does from far away. You have to invent new goggles that also work as binoculars. She seems to do fine. She takes care of all the sea creatures as usual. Feeding her lusus causes her a bit of trouble because she does not enjoy killing, but she gets the job done. She is not able to spend as much time talking to friends and doing her hobbies, but that is a sacrifice she was aware of when she ended it with you. 

You continue this schedule for several days when one day, Feferi goes and does something out of the ordinary. She leaves her hive first thing in the morning and heads towards land. You wonder what happened. You instantly follow her. Before long, she reaches a hexagonal hive. Oh no.

She knocks on the window and sure enough, Captor himself opens it. She jumps in and you stand outside, eavesdropping. 

“I need your help, Sollux. I can’t handle all of these duties on my own.”

“What happened to Eridumb?”

“We got in a reely big fight and I don’t think we will make up.”

“Oh, Tho what do you want me to do? Help you with your Dutieth?”

“Exactly. Will you?”

“Thure.”

“Thank you!” You can practically hear her hugging him. You hope that is all they’re doing. 

Your emotions take over once again and you are running. You don’t have a destination, you just run. You don’t know why this upsets you so much, it just does. You sprint until you can’t breathe, and then attempt to find a cave to sulk in.

Feferi came an asked you for help and of course you said yes. However, you have no idea what that means. What will you be doing now? What duties does she have exactly?

Feferi brings you to her hive and you have to wear some weird helmet so you don’t drown. She goes over a list of things in the order she wants them done. She does these things as she goes through the list and tells you the parts that you need to do. Non of it is too hard or difficult to remember, there is just a long list. She says some tasks she will do on her own, but is very specific about being alone when feeding her lusus. She explains that her lusus is dangerous and how it may kill you if you come near. You are worried but respect her wishes. 

You go about both of your duties for a while. Time flies when you are with Feferi since you get along so well and you can talk about pretty much anything. Not to mention, she is incredibly beautiful. You could stare at her for days. 

After a few weeks, one day when you are working on your individual tasks, and when you are supposed to be finished, Feferi doesn’t return. You try not to freak out and wait patiently. Maybe she just was delayed when feeding her lusus. Yeah, it’s probably only a delay. It has to be. Please.

You turn your attention to the window and see Eridan swimming towards you. He looks beaten up, but when he sees you his eyes light with fire. Of course he hates you, you basically replaced him. He is swimming more frantically now and he bursts through the door. 

“Hello Sol,” he says with stubborn politeness lacing his words. 

“Hey Eridumb.” You feel bad but you can’t help but tease him like always.

He sticks his tongue out at you and continues. “Where is Fef? I gotta talk to her.”

“I don’t know. She hasn’t returned yet.”

“How long have you been waiting for her?”

You look at the clock and can’t believe you let this much time pass. “About 45 minutes. I think she may have just been delayed.” 

“And you haven’t gone looking for her?! Idiot! If she was delayed she would never take this long or she would send word that she was!” He shoots out the door and towards the area Feferi told you to stay out of. That must be where her lusus is. You follow him, but you cannot swim as quickly as he can. That’s one thing he has over you.

When you see the lusus, your eyes widen to twice what they were before. It’s huge and ugly and, no doubt, powerful as hell. You’ve never been so scared in your life, and you’ve done some pretty scary shit. You look down and Eridan is almost out of sight. He is swimming with all he’s got; like his life depends on it. You would follow him is you didn’t have to swim dangerously close to this lusus. You aren’t sure what it is capable of. 

Then, suddenly, Eridan is swimming back up again with something in his arms. No, it is not something, it is Feferi. You swim to the surface and rip your helmet off, hyperventilating. How could you have let this happen?

“WE HAVE TO BRING HER TO ARADIA! ARADIA IS RESPONSIBLE AND WOULD KNOW WHAT TO DO!” Eridan screams. You know he is serious because he is actually going to ask the lowest blood in the land for help. The two of you ride on Eridan’s lusus to Aradia’s hive. She immediately calls Kanaya and Tavros and together they do surgery and try to fix Feferi. You stay and watch, offer help when it’s needed. You think you should go talk to Eridan—cheer him up.

You step out of the medical room and look at the poor sap in the corner. His head is between his knees and his hands are gripping his hair. He looks like he is having a break down, and he probably is. You sit next to him and put a hand on his back. 

“You ok? You look like a mentally deranged 85-year-old.”

“Oh yeah, I’m fine. Fef isn’t. If I had just swallowed my pride and ended that fight with her as the victor, this wouldn’t have happened. Why didn’t you protect her? Why weren’t you with her? I thought you were there to help and protect her? What the hell?”

“Hey, she told me to thtay behind becauthe it’th dangerouth.”

“EXACTLY WHY YOU SHOULD HAVE GONE!” He look up at you and he is furious.

“Whoa calm down man.” You pat his back a little forcefully. He pushes you away. 

“Don’t you tell me to calm down!” You try to put a hand on his shoulder but he slaps it away and stands up. “You were supposed to protect her!” He looks like he is about to rip his own skin off. You stand up and walk over to him and put a hand on his shoulder again. He goes to slap you away but you dodge it and grab his wrist. He goes to kick you but you jump, slide, and pull him with you. In the process of pulling him down, he twists your wrist painfully. You wince and grab his arm with your other hand. He elbows you in the face. You fall back and in knock him off his feet using your own. He falls, but makes sure to send a forearm into your diaphragm in the process. Now you’re wrestling on the floor. He is gaining the upper hand. You may not be able to take much more.

Then Karkat comes in the room, yelling as always. You hadn’t realized he was here. He must’ve been hanging out with Kanaya and tagged along when she was needed. 

“HEY YOU TWO IMBECILES WRESTLING ON THE FLOOR. YOUR MUTUAL GIRLFRIEND IS IN PAIN AND DYING AND YOU THINK ‘HEY HERE’S A GOOD IDEA. LETS GET IN A SHIT STUPID FIGHT AND CAUSE A GOD DAMN RUCUS OUTSIDE OF HER OPERATION ROOM.’ FUCK NO. YOU ASS WIPES NEED TO GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER AND CALM THE FUCK DOWN SO FEFERI OVER THERE CAN HEAL IN PEACE. I THOUGHT YOU GUYS WERE BOTH IN LOVE WITH HER OR SOME CRAP. GOD JUST BE RESPECTFUL.” That was Karkat; ever the voice of reason. Both of you stand and dust yourselves off and straighten out your clothing. Karkat gives you one more stern look and returns to Feferi’s room. 

Soon after Karkat leaves, you hear Feferi’s voice. She sounds weak. You and Eridan look at each other and run to her room; pushing each other in order to be the “first one in.” 

“Sollux,” Feferi whispers.

You walk over to her bedside. The pulls you close, whispers “thank you” and kisses you on the cheek. You blush, give her a nod, and back away. You look over and Eridan has already left the room. He can be such a baby, you’re embarrassed for him. 

“Where did Eridan go?” Feferi asks with a look of confusion.

“He ran out after you kithed me.”

“Motherglubber.” She leans over and asks Aradia something. Aradia turns around, goes to a closet, and brings out an electric wheel chair. Everyone helps Feferi into the chair and before you know it, she is out the door.

How could she do that, right in front of you? They must have told her who brought her there. How could she have called Sollux first and then kissed him? You pace around several meters from Aradia’s hive. 

“Eridan!” You hear Feferi calling you. “Come on Eridan!!”

She spots you and heads towards you. Her wheelchair tells you how bad it is; that and her missing left arm and leg. 

“Fef…” you hadn’t payed enough attention back there. The injury being this bad isn’t even a shock. You’ve seen what her lusus can do. But the is Feferi we are talking about. 

She rolls up to you and pulls you down. “You got a lot of nerve running out like that.”

“You got a lot a nerve kissin Sol like that right in front a me,” you retort.

“You are crazy! It was just a thank-you-kiss-on-the-cheek! You actually think Sollux and I are a thing? Eridan I don’t recover that quickly.” You stare at her in disbelief. She was actually upset after you left? Butterflies fill your abdominal cavity. 

“You…you actually missed me?” 

“Well duh! We were moirails for goodness sake!” You move closer to her and give her a hug. 

“Can we be moirails again?”

“Of course, silly. I need your help as well.” 

You look at her missing limbs and, as strange as it may seem, you both start laughing at them. It is just a thing that you both thought of and connected. Feferi pulls you down to her level, kisses both of your cheeks and then pecks you on the lips really quickly. She lets go and looks away. Both of you are blushing furiously. 

You wheel her back to Aradia’s hive. She hold your hand the entire time. This gives you hope for your relationship in the future. Maybe even the possibility of some red in your quadrant.
